It is seldom that a film from the Czech Republic breaks through Hollywood's
domination of distribution patterns, and so it is a special pleasure to
introduce Kolya, the story of a down-at-heel musician who agrees to a
marriage of convenience, and is left with a five year old boy when his 'wife'
heads off for Germany. Beautifully crafted by veteran Czech director Jan Sverak
into a touching, tragi-comic story set against the revolutionary events of 1989.
